Accredited Caseworker/Solicitor

We are seeking to recruit an accredited caseworker/solicitor to be based in our Leeds office.  The successful candidate will demonstrate strong commitment to work in this field and experience of working under a Legal Aid contract.

CASEWORKER/PARALEGAL (TRAINEE)

An exciting opportunity to kick-start or develop a career in law.
The successful candidate will:
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to work in this field
  • To conduct Immigration and Asylum cases (and all associated matters) in line with the guidelines, policies and procedures detailed in the Office Manual, ensuring that those associated with the case are informed regularly of the current position.
  • To attend to clients to provide appropriate legal advice, take clients’ instructions, draft statements, draft representations to UKVI, correspond with clients and others as appropriate, undertake research, prepare Court bundles, including drafting relevant submissions, skeleton arguments, costs negotiations, and instruct Counsel or, as appropriate, undertake advocacy. Also to attend the UKVI, Immigration Offices, Outreach centres, Court and other hearings as required.
  • To handle all client matters in a professional and efficient manner.
  • To complete casework in line with the time guidance set by the LAA. To keep expenditure within budget limits, as agreed with clients or within the criteria set by the LAA. To apply for financial extensions from the LAA as appropriate and within the appropriate timeframes.
  • To ensure that the Quality Mark requirements of the LAA, Law Society and SRA are met with, including ensuring time and work recording is accurate and to maintain precise and accurate records.
  • To maintain files in an orderly and tidy manner, ensuring that all time, disbursements and other items are recorded correctly and quickly. To record accurately all attendances, provide file notes and telephone notes on each file.
  • To take responsibility for the financial management of client files in accordance with the SRA, LAA and the Company’s policies.
  • To achieve individual and team performance targets set for the department, which will be reviewed at least annually and to achieve targets set for Chargeable and Non-Chargeable hours.
  • To undertake personal development within the criteria specified by the Law Society, the LAA, associated bodies and the Company.
  • To speedily and effectively disseminate information and knowledge of legislative, policy or case law changes to the personnel within the department.
  • To undertake all duties in line with professional standards and the Company’s policies and procedures.
  • To undertake such other ad hoc duties as the Director may from time to time reasonably require
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree
